The Question: What advertising best attracts your attention?

“Usually, it’s context. If I see something . . . on a street post, it’s not going to really catch my attention if it’s a black or white something.”

In an effort to understand what kinds of advertisements and marketing campaigns capture students’ attention, NAM Youth Marketing went to college campuses and conducted college student interviews with students directly.

The Question: What advertising best attracts your attention?

Students Answers:

“I guess basically things that relate to me. . . Personally, I’ll be honest. If I see . . . people I feel like I have things in common with, I’ll be more interested in the commercial I’m looking at. . . I tend to pay attention to a commercial that has youth in it, then like old people or something.”

Advertising to students at the beginning or near the start of the fall semester is imperative. This is a time when many students are making a lot of purchases, including clothing, technology, furniture, school supplies, household items, and media. The beginning of the fall semester represents a new year and is an exciting time for college students.

Ebay Shows College Students Why They are STILL Awesome

It seems like almost centuries ago that Ebay was the major player ecommerce. Despite no longer being in its hay day Ebay has found a unique way to promote its services on college campuses.

Back in the early to mid 2000s Ebay was all the rage. If you wanted to sell something online, you went to Ebay and listed it. Now there are not only free services like craigslist but also improved ecommerce on other sites. The younger generation has grown up with a choice when it comes to selling things online which makes it important for a company like Ebay to educate this consumer about what makes them great.
